Phocea is a steel-hulled, four-masted sailing vessel, with a fin ballast keel and skeg hung rudder. She has a single tier of aluminium superstructure, topped by a short second tier for the wheelhouse, the Captain’s accommodation and an outside helm position.

A state-of-the-art hydraulic rigging system lowers, raises and trims sails, all from the bridge. The rig is fore and aft, with Bermudan sails set at each of the four masts, and furling staysails forward of each.
